Recent Employment Data for the US

Category: Business: Financial Services

Despite talks about economic improvement, unemployment rate is still enhancing in the US. This trend can shake the Democrats reputation. Although economic downfall is claimed to retard, the unemployment is expected to increase and exceed 10% within the year of 2009. Growth of poverty and scarce economic improvement could give even more grounds for blaming Barack obama and parliamentarian Democrats for wasting public funds. If the development remains without changes, the government which has been justifying its spending by the efforts to produce new working positions and treat the economic instability, will have difficult times, particularly during the midterm elections of November 2010. The economic policy of The president entails the investment of 787 billion dollars in renewable energy, healthcare, education and vocational training. The government affirms that this measure will help to make the economy stable and create new working places. This optimistic vision, however, is not shared by economic specialists. By their estimates, the unemployment will exceed 10% in 2010, and its return to the pre-deterioration level (about 5%) can be expected not sooner than in a few years. The expected development of the employment situation is going to seriously affect children, low-skilled workers, immigrants, African and Latin Americans. Lawrence Mishel, president of the Economic Policy Institute, is said to allege that the rate of structural unemployment will entail tremendous damage to many communities and verbalised his astonishment with the passive attitude of American citizens. According to statistics, since December 2007 the quantity of jobs in the U.S. Has reduced by well-nigh 5.7 mln. Although recent months demonstrated a slight improvement of the employment situation and increase of expenditure, the situation remains unchanged, and the number of jobs still is getting reduced. Making things worse, American companies take pains to re-engage workers and present know hows into production, thus making their employees redundant. Moreover, the economic deterioration almost ruined the financial sector and the auto industry. Even government intervention fails to recreate nany of the jobs in these sectors. "The rate of unemployment has not reached its critical point, it will be durable," augurs Mishel. The political debate appears to indicate that the crisis is behind us, but we still need to discuss ways out of the real crisis, i.e. to recreate jobs."
